The President's Message: February 2009

By Jim Kendall

It's conference time again!

The agenda for the Community Papers of Florida (CPF) annual conference in Orlando on May 1-2 is taking shape. We have put together a program that will benefit the entire staff.

The core of the conference will be the seminars provided by AFCP's The Leadership Institute (TLI). The training programs are designed for management and sales.

The sessions on the agenda include:

~ "Prospecting, the Key to Success"
~ "Building Strong Relationships With Your More Demanding Customers"
~ "Creating Leadership for Managers, Supervisors and Team Leaders"
~ "Improving Your Team's Closing Ratio"
~ "Building Unstoppable Self Confidence"

These courses will be repeated, which will give each member of your team a chance take advantage of several of these seminars.

TLI Dean Rob Zarrilli will be on hand with his team of instructors to provide these invaluable sessions.

Breakout sessions on the agenda include an editorial design program, a distribution panel, a graphics seminar, and a classified network training presentation.

We will have a Welcome Reception on Thursday for the early birds, a return of the popular Awards for Excellence Banquet on Friday, and conclude with our traditional Kentucky Derby Reception on Saturday.

As we face these difficult financial times, this association is stepping up to the plate and making a large investment to keep your team members sharp, competitive and on track. Thanks to our past success we are able to continue to provide this conference as a benefit to members that participate in the classified network.

The training, the cost of the hotel rooms, the food and most beverages are included for CPF team members. The only out-of-pocket cost you will bear is your travel time and expense.

We are getting close to the March 12 deadline to submit your entries for the annual CPF "Awards for Excellence" program. This is the time to honor your photographers as well as your editorial and graphic team members. If you have misplaced the entry forms, contact the CPF office or download them from the members-only section of the CPF Web site.

The Awards for Excellence Banquet will be held on Friday evening. We moved this function to a luncheon ceremony two years ago when we went to a one-conference-per-year format, but the members indicated they missed the "more formal" evening banquet. The board agreed and so it will once again be the highlight of the annual conference.

As we in the print industry scramble to keep our papers afloat, the CPF conference will be a great place to meet, unwind, share ideas and give the all-important team members we employ an upbeat outlook for our future.

We hope that you help make it happen! Register now to attend the 2009 annual CPF conference.
