Make Your Plans to Attend Conference Now!

The time is almost here and we hope you are finalizing your plans to attend the Community Papers of Florida (CPF) Fall Conference scheduled September 18-20 at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Fla. This conference promises to be rewarding, educational and fun as CPF will be joined by members of the Independent Free Papers of America (IFPA) and the Southeastern Advertising Publishers Association (SAPA).

The CPF board has agreed to pay most of each member's allotted room costs and other related expenses, except travel. The board approval is for 60 rooms with two attendees per room. After the 60-room allocation has been filled, other members who decide to attend will pay the full room costs as well as costs for meals and receptions. See the flyer attached below for the estimated costs.

Classified Network Ads selling members get first choice of the available rooms. The allocation for total rooms is listed on the registration form attached below.

The CPF office has just begun contacting members by email asking them to provide the list of team members who they plan to send to the conference. The CPF office will keep members updated on the room allocations.

Because we have been able to join with IFPA and SAPA for this joint conference, over $20,000 has been spent to bring in renowned industry speakers. The lineup of speakers includes Jay Baer, Kelly Wirges, Ryan Dohrn, Tim Bingaman, Douglas Fry, Dan Buendo, Tony Thomasson, Doug Fabian, Mark Helmer and Ken Ubert. We encourage you to check the bios of these individuals, which are listed in the brochure attached below.

You will not want to miss out on the wealth of information and training that will be available at this conference. Some of the topics include, "Sales Process for Success," "Why Smart Marketing is About Help not Hype," "Progressive Prospecting," "8 Steps To Creating A Winning Social Media Strategy," "Creating Multi-Media Sales Presentations That Win Business," "Sold! On Classifieds," "Revenue Generating Digital Ideas," and "Revenue Generating Ideas For Print." The training sessions will include a "Technology Roundtable," "Sales Open Mic Roundtable," "CVC Audit Updates," "Publishers Roundtable," and "Graphics Sessions."

An addition to the conference is a one-day boot camp for newer sales representatives. Diane Ciotta will team up with Tim Bingaman for this Saturday training program that will conclude at 3:30 p.m. Those who attend this session do not have to be conference attendees. The cost is $99. The annual graphic and editorial awards competition format for this year has changed. CPF member publications will compete with IFPA and SAPA member publications. This gives members the opportunity to win awards on a national basis.

SAPA's Executive Director Douglas Fry has designed a system that will allow award entries to be placed directly on a website. Judging will take place on the Web. Generic information on how to enter your ads and the entry categories are attached below; individual publication usernames and passwords have already been sent directly to each publisher via email from Douglas Fry. There is a $5 cost per entry and the deadline for entries is July 31.

As usual, fun and "social networking" will be prevalent, commencing with a fun get-together on the opening day of the conference with a welcome reception scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided. You might also want to take advantage of discounted tickets to nearby Disney World (see the flyer attached below).

Friday's food and entertainment starts with a fabulous BBQ by the pool, catered by a vendor whose specialty is providing this service. Entertainment will be provided by the Trop Rock Junkies, a band formed several years ago by Steve Tolliver. Steve was employed by Newspaper Printing Company in Tampa, Fla., and attended many conference as an associate member. We are looking forward to visiting with him and to enjoying the songs that he writes about the Florida Keys.

Put September 18-20 on your calendar and take advantage of another excellent association conference. We look forward to visiting with you in Orlando.

Following this article is one announcing that Jim Kendall is resigning his position as president of The Flyer in Tampa. Sadly, Jim will also step down from the CPF board of directors. I have known Jim for literally half my life - thus why I look older!!! - and he has been a dear personal friend for a long time. He is one of the smarter individuals I've ever worked with and his contributions will be missed by the association, our industry and me personally. He asks that in lieu of "good wishes" you just buy him drinks during the conference! Seriously, Jim, we - I! - will miss you dearly. Best of luck to you and Sue on your new endeavors!!
