MIA Director #3: Gary Hawken
If you're looking for Gary Hawken, don't bother going to the Flashes Shopping Guide. Try looking around "The Swamp" where the Florida Gators are looking for another National Championship.

The long-time Community Papers of Florida (CPF) board member and owner of Flashes has sold the publication to his nephew, Kevin Hawken. "We were happy to keep it in the family," Gary said.

Hawken was an active member of CPF for over 30 years. He has served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. In 1996 he was the recipient of the association's Presidential Award. The award is presented to someone who has devoted the time and effort necessary to make this association one of the strongest in the country. For years Hawken chaired the conference idea fairs.

He was also an active member of the Association of Free Community Papers (AFCP), the Southeastern Advertising Publishers Association (SAPA) and the Independent Free Papers of America (IFPA). He is a past member of the IFPA board of directors.

Hawken is a graduate of the University of Florida. You will find Gary and Sandra visiting Gainesville for sporting events and on the road to some of the scheduled away games.

At the October Board of Directors meeting, the board named Gary an Honorary Member of the association. We will look forward to visiting with him at future conferences.
