Those who attended the meetings and earned entries into the Kentucky Derby drawings went home with over $5,000. And how about Lynn Krueger? Kentucky Derby Reception

09 May 2008
Kentucky Derby ReceptionWhen Big Brown broke from the number 20 position in the Kentucky Derby he was off to a good start, moving over to the outside and running in the seventh position. When he headed around the final turn in the Kentucky Derby there was no doubt – he was in a class by himself and the winner of the 134th Derby.

When Lynn Krueger (pictured in her Kentucky Derby finery with CPF Executive Director Dave Neuharth) of TheFlyer.com in Tampa headed for the Community Papers of Florida conference in Orlando, she got off to a terrible start. A car accident resulted in $700 in damage plus the cost of a car rental.

But like Big Brown, she concluded the conference in a winning fashion. Her horse’s “Win” ticket, earned by attending the day’s sessions, was drawn for the first place prize of $1,000. Since she also listed Big Brown on her ticket as the winner, when the horse blew by the field it doubled her prize to $2,000. She couldn't believe her good fortune, though, and kept asking, "Are you kidding me? Is this check real?" Finally convinced that it was real, she was all smiles. Congratulations, Lynn!

2008 CPF / RAK Systems Best Ball Scramble

09 May 2008
2008 CPF / RAK Systems Best Ball ScrambleThe results are in! The winning team of Steve Erlanger, Charlie Hencye and Richard Kitzmann scored five birdies on the back nine to finish two under par in the CPF / RAK Systems Best Ball Scramble Sunday following the annual conference.

Charlie Hencye picked up the prize for the logest drive, while the longest putt was sunk by Bob Ericson. Closest to the pin was Joe Craig.

This year’s tournament was held at the Grande Pines Golf Club, a renowned course designed by architect Steve Smyers. One of Central Florida’s most dynamic new courses, it features lakes and tall pines, oak trees and palms, and native flora. To help golfers conquer the challenging course, each cart is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide accurate yardage to the hole (along with the ability to place lunch orders while on the course!)

“It was a good course,” said Kitzmann, “challenging but fun. We’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament.”
